چکیده

This paper presents recent advances in the computational analysis of the failure mechanisms in high-strength steel. Computational issues are described regarding modeling of the geometry, distribution, and material behavior of the dispersed phases present in the microstructure of steel. The investigation of the failure mechanisms using computational cell model methodology in two and three dimensions is then presented with an emphasis on microvoid-induced shear failure occurring at the scale of submicrometer grain-refi ning carbide precipitates. The failure of a three-dimensional particle cluster extracted from tomographic analysis of an engineering alloy is simulated. Finally the cell model results are used to simulate the failure of the material at the macro-scale.

Failure characteristics of a dual-phase steel sheet

Failure in ductile sheet metal structures is usually caused by one, or a combination of, ductile tensile fractures, ductile shear fractures or localised instability. In this paper the failure characteristics of the high strength steel Docol 600DP are explored. The study includes both experimental and numerical sections. In the experimental sections, the fracture surface of the sheet subjected t...

Numerical investigation of composite shear walls with different types of steel and concrete materials as boundary elements

The main objective of this study was to numerically assess the effect of boundary elements with different types of steel and concrete materials on nonlinear behavior of composite steel–reinforced concrete wall (CSRCW) by employing ABAQUS software. Two types of common steel profiles including box and I-shaped sections, located at the middle and extremities of the wall, were employed to assess th...

Failure of high strength steel sheets: Experiments and modelling

Failure in sheet metal structures of ductile material is usually caused by one of, or a combination of, ductile fracture, shear fracture or localised instability. In this paper the failure of the high strength steel Docol 600DP and the ultra high strength steel Docol 1200M is explored. The constitutive model used in this study includes plastic anisotropy and mixed isotropic-kinematic hardening....

Predicting Low Cycle Fatigue Life through Simulation of Crack in Cover Plate Welded Beam to Column Connections

This paper presents a low cycle fatigue life curve by simulating a crack in a cover plate welded moment connection. Initiation of ductile fracture in steel is controlled by growth and coalescence of micro-voids. This research used a numerical method using finite element modeling and simulation of ductile crack initiation by a micromechanical model. Therefore, a finite element model of a cover p...

Modelling of Failure in High Strength Steel Sheets

In this theses the high strength steel Docol 600DP and the ultra high strength steel Docol 1200M are studied. Constitutive laws and failure models are calibrated and verified by the use of experiments and numerical simulations. For the constitutive equations, an eight parameter high exponent yield surface has been adopted, representing the anisotropic behaviour, and a mixed isotropic-kinematic ...
